The MIC – International Ceramics Museum of Faenza hosts the exhibition “Picasso. The challenge of ceramic” until April 13, 2020: 50 unique pieces to tell the ceramic art according to the great Spanish artist.
The exhibition curated by Harald Theil and Salvador Haro with the collaboration of Claudia Casali is a unique opportunity to admire Picasso’s approach to ceramics: the pieces come from the collections of the Musée National Picasso-Paris and are representative of Picasso’s entire ceramic production.
“The challenge of ceramics” analyzes Picasso’s sources of inspiration starting from the artifacts found in the Faenza collections: the classic ceramics, the Etruscan bucchero wares, the popular Spanish and Italian ceramics, the Italian “graffito” (incised decoration) of the 15th century, the iconography of the Mediterranean area and the earthenware of the Mesoamerican cultures “will dialogue” in a new way with the works of Picasso. There is also a special section dedicated to the relationship between Picasso and Faenza, where documents and photographs of the MIC’s historical archive are exhibited for the first time ever.
At the end of a visit full of suggestions, we recommend a walk in the beautiful historic center of Faenza, reachable on foot from the MIC, and a visit to our ceramics workshop to experience the pleasant contrast between the works of Picasso and our traditional ceramics, two types of ceramics that are very different but daughters of the same story..
