Italian pottery for United States customers

1 December 2016 · Categoria Artistic ceramics

Our online store brings artistic ceramics La Vecchia Faenza and Laura Silvagni to Italy and to United States.
A new Renaissance for the Faenza ceramic art
In the Renaissance, Faenza became famous for its ceramic art. Majolica produced in Faenza was successfully exported throughout Europe, so that “Faenza” and “tiled” have become synonymous in many languages, including French (faïence) and English (faience).

Armed with this glorious past, we propose the same goal now as then: bring our crafts in homes not only of Italians, but also of the Americans! We are aware that the market has become more fragmented and competitive, and also the clientele has changed: more careful and demanding, but also less willing to spend in the manner of a nobleman of the time. It’s funny to note how, in this scenario changed profoundly, we can bring the world a product radically traditional but eternal as our artistic ceramics thanks to modern sales channels, our e-commerce in the first place.

Ceramics on the road: from Argillà to Villa d’Ogna (Bergamo)

16 September 2016 · Categoria Events

Argillà 2016 ended with a great success of visitors, we speak of a hundred thousand presences! This great festival of ceramics has led to Faenza people from around the world, giving an international dimension to Faenza majolica.

We were happy to meet so many people who were interested and appreciated our majolica, also attracted by two large one-off pieces that we had made for the occasion: a plate in “Raffaellesco style” and an amphora.

Our ceramics at Villa d’Ogna
Archived beautiful Argillà experience, we are again in preparing for a different kind of event: the Festival of Nature Villa d’Ogna (BG), scheduled on 24 and 25 September.

Argillà Italia: Faenza, 2-4 September 2016

26 August 2016 · Categoria Events

From 2 to 4 September 2016 returns Argillà Italia, the international festival of ceramics that recalls in Faenza 250 ceramists from all over the world.

We look forward to seeing you in Corso Mazzini – Sector D Stand 14 to show the ancient ceramic tradition respected in all its values. Despite the difficult times for crafts, working hours that we dedicate to our pieces, big or small, are always the same: many! Because each object requires a particular care to mold the shape and especially to decorate.

In our stand you will find the most beautiful novelty, as a large dish “raffaellesco style” of 75 cm in diameter and a large amphora with stand, and we will try to amaze you with the newest ceramics from wear: pendants, earrings and much more!

Great ornamental plates decorated “A Pavona” with astorre

15 July 2016 · Categoria Artistic ceramics

We just made two large ornamental plates that share the size – 60 cm in diameter – the decorations in Pavona and Persian palmette styles, and the central figure: the Astorre.

The Astorre is an imaginary bird, typical of highly glazed pottery tradition, somewhere between a goshawk and a heron. It owes its name probably to Astorre Manfredi, lord of Faenza also known as Astorgio.

The first dish is decorated in a traditional manner: the two Astorri, bird with a long, twisted neck, have been reinterpreted by a fifteenth-century vase kept in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. In traditional symbolism, the trained animals plots represent the flow of divine energy in the forms, life, growth, continuity.

On board, the Pavona decoration is inspired by same historical period and developed with some characteristic features: the bright colors, the withered leaves around the peacock feather, a pyramidal flame.

Bernard Rackham describes these patterns in its “Masterpieces of Italian majolica” (1976, p. 32): “With stunning security, the potters of Faenza used countless reasons – figures, coats of arms, flowers or leaves – to enrich with their variety of rhythm and color plastic forms that are in themselves full of magnitude.”
